Dear Valued Partners and Friends,
The Commtouch team recently attended three major security events: CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, RSA in San Francisco, CA and InfoSecurity Europe in London. It was a pleasure to meet with many of you in person to share ideas and discuss ways we can work together, strengthening alliances and building the most advanced network of security technologies.
While the global economic situation has caused a crisis in many industries, online security is poised to weather the storm. Companies may be tightening budgets, but are still willing to spend on core necessities like messaging and Web security. According to a recent poll by TechTarget, 48% of companies will expand their security budgets this year despite the economic situation. The poll also showed that security is one of the budget items least likely to be affected by the economy. With partners' and customers' renewed focus on the bottom line, solutions like Commtouch's that automatically update from the cloud and require minimal overhead, are receiving more attention.
This newsletter includes several new items designed to be used within your own company and with your customers. For more information about any of the materials presented here, or if you'd like to brainstorm ways to use them effectively, please be in touch with me.
Regards,

Rebecca Steinberg Herson
Vice President Marketing |

| The major news of the first quarter of 2009 was the rapid propagation of the Conficker worm. Research indicates its three variations have infected more than 15 million computers, weaving a massive zombie botnet, since |
|
 |
appearing on the scene in November 2008. Another trend noted throughout the quarter was the continued exploitation of legitimate sites by spammers and malware distributors to bypass traditional content filtering technologies. Recent tactics include the targeting of ISPs and the borrowing of images from legitimate, well-known hosts to use in e-mail messages.
Read about these trends and more by downloading the Commtouch Q1 Internet Threats Trend Report.
Don't forget that Commtouch partners can receive a co-branded version of this quarterly report for use as a sales tool. To find out more, please contact your Commtouch representative.

| OEM partnerships (or embedded technology partnerships) have been an important part of the software industry since its inception. In this business model a company embeds technology from a technology provider in order to |
|
 |
improve its existing product or service. In the competitive world of messaging and Web security, more and more companies are turning to acquire technology by forming OEM partnerships in order to embed into their technology a subject expertise. This allows them to focus on their core business while securing best-of-breed technologies for their clients.

Commtouch Unveils
Newly Designed Web Site
After many months of designing and programming, our new Web site is live. Check out the Resource section for real time messaging and Web data in the new and improved Security Center or browse the Document Library. And now, partners can create a unique username and password for access to advanced features and research materials including white papers and analyst reports. In the future, we will introduce a Partner Extranet; partners will need their usernames and passwords to enter.
For assistance with the Web site, please contact the Webmaster.

Solution Spotlight: Spam Classifications
In order to maximize the results of the Commtouch
Anti-Spam SDK, we recommend periodically reviewing the Commtouch spam
classification definitions and our action recommendations as described
in the Guidelines for Spam Detection.
The Commtouch Datacenter is based on Commtouch's Recurrent Pattern
Detection™ (RPD™) technology which is responsible for weeding out
spam messages from global traffic, identifying the spam patterns, and
enabling the delivery of legitimate messages to millions of end-users
worldwide. RPD constantly calibrates itself to recognize new and emerging
message patterns as spammers develop new patterns in an attempt to
outwit less sophisticated anti-spam solutions.
Commtouch classifies messages into "good" or "bad." "Bad" emails are spam messages that have recurrent patterns, and may either come from known spammers (e.g. zombies) or messages that contain spam patterns but are not sent from known spammers at the time the message is received. "Good" messages are those that are from trusted sources or those that contain no recognized spam patterns.
For more information on spam classifications, download the Guidelines for Spam Classification or contact your technical account manager.

New Web Security Lab
The data we have gathered through our years in the Internet Security industry has enabled us to build useful tools for monitoring malware outbreaks plus spam and zombie/botnet trends. The Commtouch team has also harnessed the data to develop a new feature for the recently re-designed Online Security Center ; the recently unveiled Web Security Lab identifies the top categories of Web sites infected with malware or manipulated by phishing and displays them in graphs that our partners can integrate into their own Web sites.
For more information about these tools and how the data is collected, check out our Web Security Lab blog post.
For information about displaying these (or any of our other tools) on your Web site, email bizdev@commtouch.com.
