New Version of Commtouch GlobalView Mail Reputation with Enhanced Reporting, Custom Logic Capabilities

Blocks Zombies in Real-Time, Preventing Spam, Malware Overload

Sunnyvale, Calif., August 19, 2008 – Commtouch (NASDAQ: CTCH) today announced the availability of version 3.0 of its GlobalView™ Mail Reputation Service, a perimeter protection technology that blocks the majority of spam, malware and phishing messages at the network perimeter, resulting in significant savings in bandwidth, storage and processing power.

Today, zombies -- aka bots -- send the majority of unwanted mail and virtually all malicious messages; only a solution that identifies and blocks zombies in real-time such as Commtouch GlobalView can prevent the subsequent clogging of inbound email pipes, messaging servers and storage facilities from this flood of undesirable mail.

“GlobalView is a veteran reputation service, available since 2006 and now in its third release,” said Amir Lev, Commtouch’s chief technology officer. “We have taken this opportunity to add further usability features on top of the real-time botnet detection capabilities, to enhance the service’s compatibility with our OEM licensees’ needs.”

New Features: Customizable Throttling Logic and Enhanced Reporting

Commtouch unveiled two brand new functions in the new version:

  • Versatile Throttling Logic - Commtouch licensing partners can fine-tune the service in conjunction with Commtouch, to provide multiple throttling scenarios to their customers. The end result of this tailoring process is more accurate blocking of malicious and unwanted mail. Throttling is the process whereby mail from senders that are either unknown or sending a combination of good and bad email can be slowed down until a more accurate blocking decision can be made.
  • Enhanced Reporting – New reports are available that describe the operation and performance of the GlobalView service. The reports enable a broad range of diagnostics, along with the ability to research types of attacks over time, and daily activity breakdowns. Licensing partners can report on a single instance of GlobalView or larger environments with multiple instances of the service in a single unified report.

How GlobalView Works

The GlobalView™ Mail Reputation Service is founded on Commtouch’s unique bird’s eye view of email, sampled from highly diverse traffic sources from over 180 countries. Commtouch Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD™) technology analyzes two billion messages per day in real-time to determine the sender patterns of spam and virus-infested messages, and identifies deviations from regular sending patterns. As a result, GlobalView can identify zombies/bots within minutes of their being activated as part of an email outbreak, resulting in a GlobalView-recommended action for licensing partners’ products.

In addition to identifying zombie hosts, GlobalView relies on historical and up-to-the-minute data to accurately classify legitimate senders, including corporations and newsletter publishers.

Availability

Version 3.0 of Commtouch GlobalView is now available for license to security vendors and service providers, and supports all standard Mail Transfer Agent platforms. For more information, see: http://www.commtouch.com/Site/Products/ip_reputation.asp or write to nospam@commtouch.com
