Commtouch-Osterman Webinar: Outbound Spam and Blacklisting – Understanding the Risks

Commtouch and Osterman Research in Online Seminar, Tuesday, June 29

Sunnyvale, CA and Black Diamond, WA, – June 16, 2010 – Reducing the risk of having blacklisted IP addresses is a central theme in the upcoming webinar hosted by Commtouch® (NASDAQ: CTCH) and analyst firm Osterman Research.

The webinar will present how ISPs, Web hosting providers, managed service providers and other providers of email services deal with spam generated from within their own networks. Data from the recent Commtouch/Osterman research study, the first ever comprehensive report on how outbound spam affects service providers, will also be presented.

The webinar, entitled “Outbound Spam and Blacklisting – Understanding the Risks,” will take place on Tuesday, June 29 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific / 11:00am Eastern / 17:00 Central Europe. To register for this event please visit: http://www.ostermanresearch.com/webinar_2010JUN29e.htm.

“Our research shows that two-thirds of email service providers consider dealing with outbound spam to be an important or extremely important issue for them in 2010,” said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research.  “These service providers realize that eliminating outbound spam can improve their customer service, reduce overall costs, and help them differentiate their offerings to their target customers.”

During the interactive session, Michael Osterman and Asaf Greiner, vice president of products at Commtouch, will discuss the recent research study’s findings on how outbound spam affects email providers and their customers. They will present examples of issues that service providers face as a result of outbound spam, along with solutions that can effectively deal with the problem in order to reduce costs and improve customer service.

“The impact of having blacklisted IPs is not a trivial matter for service providers as it affects customer satisfaction and detracts from the bottom line,” said Asaf Greiner, vice president products at Commtouch. ”Dealing with just the symptoms is not going to make the problem go away, however; outbound spam solutions must deal with the problem at the root by identifying the sources of outbound spam.”

During the webinar, participants will discover:

  • The extensive size and scope of the outbound spam problem, as illustrated in the recent research report which surveyed hundreds of service providers and end-customers
  • The significant challenges service providers encounter with their current outbound spam blocking methods.
  • The critical importance of dealing with the source of the problem – the spammer– rather than just the symptom of outbound spam.
  • Practical solutions for dealing with outbound spam.
