Commtouch’s Anti-Malware Products Protect Against Recent Massive Virus Outbreaks

Commtouch Command the only antivirus to identify recent Flash Player exploit at zero-hour

Sunnyvale, CA – April 28, 2011 – Commtouch® (Nasdaq: CTCH), a leading Internet security technology provider, announced today that its anti-malware technologies, specifically Zero-Hour™ Virus Outbreak Protection and Command Antivirus, have been key in protecting Commtouch clients from the recent 400 percent jump in email-borne malware.

Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak protects during the first moments of an email-borne malware outbreak, as it is based on Commtouch’s Recurrent Pattern Detection™ (RPD™), which analyzes large volumes of Internet traffic in real-time. It identifies new malware outbreaks as soon as they emerge, providing proactive blocking of viruses before traditional antivirus signatures are available.

“Our hosted exchange customers expect a virus-free environment,” said Manlio Carrelli, chief marketing officer of Intermedia. “We chose Commtouch’s Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Protection because it eliminates email-borne malware threats immediately and effectively.”

Commtouch’s Command Antivirus combines multiple detection technologies such as heuristics, emulation, and intelligent signatures with Threat Protection Modules that target specific malware types. Command’s multilayered approach provides the best protection against unpredictable malware events.  For example, a zero-day Flash Player exploit used in spearphishing attacks was only detected by Command in the initial VirusTotal scan of 42 antivirus engines.

“Commtouch’s Zero-Hour and Command Antivirus solutions have a long track record of early interception of malicious outbreaks,” said Asaf Greiner, Commtouch’s vice president of products. “Clients know that our technology ensures the highest levels of protection from any malware threat.”
Continuing email-borne malware outbreaks are abusing the names of well-known courier services such as FedEx, DHL and UPS; more information about these attacks is available on the Commtouch Blog.
