GlobalView URL Filtering SDK

  • quote up In order to truly protect SMB networks, security solutions need to be able to fully secure email and web communication. Email SPAM, malware embedded in email SPAM, and risky web surfing to unauthorized sites all contribute to raising a business’s exposure to Internet-borne threats. Commtouch’s RPD and GlobalView email and web filtering technology give our ProSecure STM Series the power to protect our SMB customers without adding undue management complexity. quote bottom

Success Stories

Traditional URL filtering solutions are stretching beyond their limit, attempting to deal with today's increasingly complex web environment. The explosion in highly dynamic sites, user-initiated content, and growing web threats like drive-by downloads make it nearly impossible for these client-centric solutions to filter URLs meaningfully any longer.

Commtouch's GlobalView URL Filtering solution leverages its unique "in the cloud" infrastructure to provide unprecedented breadth of web coverage. The solution localizes responses specifically to the needs of end-customers, avoiding the "one size fits all" approach of traditional solutions. With nearly two decades in the email security industry, Commtouch provides matchless insight into threats, blocking harmful sites at the zero hour, often long before users are exposed to them.

How it Works

Commtouch GlobalView URL Filtering categorizes user URL requests in the following manner:

  1. The GlobalView URLF engine is installed on the partner device (e.g. Web Security Gateway).
  2. The partner device receives an http request.
  3. The device uses the GlobalView SDK to check the URL classification. The GlobalView URLF engine frst checks its local cache for URL values; typically more than 99% of queries are locally resolved by the cache.
  4. If necessary, the GlobalView URLF engine queries the Commtouch Detection and classification Center for relevant updates.
  5. The partner device blocks, allows or strips content according to the classification it receives from the GlobalView URLF engine.

URL Filtering

Zero-Hour Security

GlobalView URL Filtering detects threats early, since it identifies outbreaks on the way to users, instead of reacting to their pain.

  • Predictive threat detection recognizes harmful sites before users are exposed.
  • Zero-hour competencies leveraged from all Commtouch security products across the Detection Center axis.
  • Commtouch Security Alliance augments security data input for maximum precision.

Unparalleled Accuracy

GlobalView URL Filtering intelligently determines when and how deeply to scan each site.

  • Customer-oriented classification triggered by every new site customers browse.
  • Routine analysis of site dynamics and user behavior determines scan granularity.
  • Continuous tracking ensures exact classification of each URL at every moment.

Innovative Data Cloud Technology

The vast size of the Internet coupled with the unique browsing habits of individual customers created the need to move the traditional URL database “into the cloud,” overcoming local storage limitations and providing customers with information tailored to meet their specific needs.

  • Global and diversified data sources process billions of transactions daily
  • Massive, centralized database stores all the URL classification a customer needs
  • Lightweight, economical local clients receive and store only the data customers need, when they need it, eliminating resource-intensive updates
