Anti-Spam is typically integrated into a service provider environment or a vendor device such as a Mail Gateway. It consists of an engine that resides in the partner product or environment and an “in the cloud” detection and classification center (the GlobalView Network).
After integration within the service provider environment or vendor device, emails are fed to the engine to determine the classification. The engine first checks its local cache for classifications. If necessary, the engine queries the cloud-based GlobalView Network for classification. The engine returns a classification and the vendor device or service provider server then deletes, quarantines or forwards the email to the user.
Commtouch has a sustainable detection rate of typically more than 99%, with next to no false-positives (approximately 1 in 1.5 million) due to its patented Recurrent Pattern Detection™ (RPD™) technology.
Commtouch’s Anti-Spam solution relies on patented RPD (Recurrent Pattern Detection) technology, which differs significantly from traditional content filters. RPD extracts and then analyzes relevant message patterns, which are used to identify massive email-borne outbreaks. RPD classifies both distribution patterns and structure patterns, regardless of the content or language of the message; the analysis results are stored in a vast warehouse of classifications. RPD is designed to distinguish between the distribution patterns of solicited bulk emails which represent legitimate business correspondence, from those of unsolicited bulk emails.
Commtouch Recurrent Pattern Detection contains an intrinsic mechanism to match recurrent patterns across similar messages. In the case of images, Commtouch is able to match images even with minute differences inserted by spammers.
Commtouch analyses more than 2 billion email messages per day.
Commtouch provides a easy tool for partners to report false negatives (FNs) or false positives (FPs). A team of spam analysts manually reviews each false positive and adjusts RPD algorithms to avoid similar FPs in the future. An automated process analyzes false negatives and uses that information as part of the RPD feed, to benefit future queries.
Commtouch analyzes more than 2 billion email messages per day, enabling us to detect new spam patterns in a matter of seconds. More importantly, our “in-the-cloud” architecture, makes this information is available for our partners at the moment a new attack is detected by The Commtouch GlobalView Network. From the partner’s perspective, it takes only a few seconds to detect and block a new spam attack.
